CHAT’s food bank is run by volunteers and supported by donations from the local community. It is available for people who need short term assistance.
The foodbank is open on weekdays from 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm.
There are many reasons people need to visit a foodbank. These may be:
- Universal Credit delay/changeover
- Priority debts to be paid
- Benefit sanction
- Clearing rent arrears
- Unexpected change of circumstances
- Street homelessness
Food is given on receipt of a voucher from a referral agency, such as CAB, MDDC, GP, Local Welfare or the Jobcentre. Vouchers last for up to 2 weeks and in certain circumstances may be renewed.
When you come we will:
- Treat you with dignity
- Talk to you about what items you may need
- Ask you what cooking facilities you have
- Ask how much you can carry
- See if there is anything else we can help you with
The foodbank does reserve the right to refuse the voucher on the basis of previous funding and assistance. It may be appropriate to refer you for further help with different agencies or help you with debt and money advice.
If you wish to donate to our foodbank there are collection boxes at Tesco, Morrisons and many churches in Mid Devon You are also welcome to bring donations of food into the office. Shortages of items are posted to Facebook most weeks so please follow our page for the most up to date news.
